Washington, D.C., October 27, 2018 – This morning, an anti-Semitic man attacked and shot members of Tree of Life Synagogue in Squirrel Hill, PA for nothing more than honoring their faith and their traditions. With reports of at least eight dead and several more injured, the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence released the following statement expressing outrage at yet another mass shooting in America.
Brady Campaign co-president Avery Gardiner stated,
“This morning, members of the Tree of Life Synagogue entered a place of worship, just as millions of others did the same in synagogues across the world for Sabbath morning services. Their children went to Hebrew school, their rabbis raised the Torah for all to see. And then, in an act of pure hatred, a man entered their holy temple and began murdering them in cold blood. A man who made no mistake about his anti-Semitic intentions, reportedly calling out that ‘All Jews must die.’ When police arrived on the scene, he continued firing, injuring and perhaps killing several officers.
“We do not know how this man obtained his gun, nor what weapon he used. What we do know is that innocent blood has again been shed for no reason other than hatred and rage. We know that it is far too easy for those who want to kill to get guns in America. We know that these innocent victims will never again return to their families, hold their children, enjoy their lives. We mourn for the members of the Tree of Life community, for their loved ones, and for members of the Jewish faith who are reeling across the world today. Today, we simply say, zikhronam liv'rakha - may their memories be for a blessing.”
