Washington, D.C., April 7, 2022 - Today, Brady applauds the confirmation of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to serve as an Associate Justice on the Supreme Court of the United States. Judge Brown Jackson is an impartial and well-qualified judge who has demonstrated a clear understanding of the importance and role of the Supreme Court and of a Supreme Court Justice during her confirmation process. Her prior experience, particularly as a public defender, will bring important perspective and insight to the Court as it decides cases that affect every American in the future.

Brady President Kris Brown shared:

“Americans have a right to live free from gun violence, a right to enact strong public safety laws to protect their families and community, and those rights are perfectly consistent with the Second Amendment. We hope and expect that Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson will be a strong voice for those rights on the Supreme Court. Her confirmation is historic. She is eminently qualified to serve on the Supreme Court and brings with her important experience that will help bring new perspective and depth to discussions on the Court. The innuendo and charges during her confirmation hearings were patently false, disingenuous to their core, and poisonous to the proper functioning of our government and the appointment of qualified judges. She is clearly fair and measured. During these hearings, Judge Brown Jackson had the opportunity to answer questions regarding the Second Amendment, indicating that she understands the historic and consistent interpretation of the right to bear arms and sits well inside the judicial mainstream. The court will certainly hear cases regarding our nation’s gun violence prevention and public safety laws in the future, it is reassuring that Judge Brown Jackson will hear and rule on these questions fairly and impartially.”

Brady has one powerful mission — to unite all Americans against gun violence. We work across Congress, the courts, and our communities with over 90 grassroots chapters, bringing together young and old, red and blue, and every shade of color to find common ground in common sense. In the spirit of our namesakes Jim and Sarah Brady, we have fought for over 45 years to take action, not sides, and we will not stop until this epidemic ends. It’s in our hands.
