Shorty podcast red blue brady gun violence

"Red, Blue, and Brady" is a Shorty Award finalist for its groundbreaking work on gun violence prevention and racial justice.

Washington, D.C., October 31, 2022 – Brady’s podcast, “Red, Blue, and Brady,” has been honored as a finalist for the Shorty Award for Best Podcast, the third such nomination for the groundbreaking podcast in as many years.

The Shorty Awards honor the best in production and development for several categories of content and social media, including podcast production. Other podcast nominees include Planned Parenthood’s “TONE” and ABC Audio’s “Life Out Loud with LZ Granderson.” “Red, Blue, and Brady” is also in contention for the voter-selected Shorty Audience Award.

With over 40,000 people in America killed by guns each year, the podcast shines a light on the prevalence of gun violence and provides a powerful forum to gun violence survivors. Launched in 2019, "Red, Blue, and Brady," was the first podcast devoted solely to gun violence prevention, and the first podcast devoted to gun violence prevention and racial justice. Co-hosts JJ Janflone and Kelly Sampson often focus the conversation on disadvantaged communities that are disproportionately affected by gun violence.

“Red, Blue, and Brady” is also notable for its work in distilling the complicated issue of America’s gun violence epidemic so listeners can understand that solutions are possible, and what they can do to effect change and make our country safer. It’s the storytelling behind the statistics – and the emphasis on including gun owners and non-gun owners in the conversation – that makes “Red, Blue, and Brady” unique in the podcast space.

“Red, Blue, and Brady” consistently places in the top 200 of the iTunes education charts, demonstrating the hunger for well researched, passionate, intersectional conversations on gun violence, race and racism. Additionally, the series attracts listeners from 108 countries, and ListenNote ranks the podcast as one of the top 3% most popular shows out of almost 3 million globally. Prominent guests have included U.S. Rep. Jaime Raskin (D-Md.), historian Dr. Carol Anderson, and Pulitzer Prize winner Dr. Heather Ann Thompson.

Winners will be announced November 16.

Brady has one powerful mission — to unite all Americans against gun violence. We work across Congress, the courts, and our communities with over 90 grassroots chapters, bringing together young and old, red and blue, and every shade of color to find common ground in common sense. In the spirit of our namesakes Jim and Sarah Brady, we have fought for over 45 years to take action, not sides, and we will not stop until this epidemic ends. It’s in our hands.
