New Reforms Include New Age Restrictions, Mandatory Waiting Periods, Gun Industry Accountability.

Washington, D.C., April 28, 2023 – Today, Colorado Gov. Jared Polis signed into law a package of gun violence prevention bills that includes new age restrictions on firearms, mandatory waiting periods, and a repeal of harmful gun industry immunity laws. Brady, the oldest national gun violence prevention organization, has endorsed and worked alongside state lawmakers, national and local partners, Brady grassroots volunteers and members of Team ENOUGH on this historic package.

Brady President Kris Brown stated:

"As our nation faces historic rates of gun violence, states like Colorado are taking proactive steps to address this deadly epidemic.
“These policies, signed into law today, are designed to inhibit firearms from making their way into the wrong hands and stop gun violence before it happens. Firearm age restrictions and mandatory waiting periods are essential to reducing suicide and protecting Coloradans from the threat of mass shootings.
“Additionally, Coloradans will now be able to pursue civil actions against irresponsible and negligent gun industry members for the harm that they cause without fear of being punished. This will not only provide access to justice, but will incentivize safer business practices, preventing future gun violence
“Brady applauds Gov. Polis for signing these bills into law, and thanks all bill sponsors and champions for helping pass these life-saving reforms.”

Brady has one powerful mission — to unite all Americans against gun violence. We work across Congress, the courts, and our communities with over 90 grassroots chapters, bringing together young and old, red and blue, and every shade of color to find common ground in common sense. In the spirit of our namesakes Jim and Sarah Brady, we have fought for over 45 years to take action, not sides, and we will not stop until this epidemic ends. It’s in our hands.
